RNC HEADQUARTERS, TRUMP TOWER — It seems that Donald Trump chose the perfect person to run his presidential campaign.
Longtime political operative Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman, is the subject of the top story in today’s New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/15/us/politics/paul-manafort-ukraine-donald-trump.html?emc=edit_th_20160815&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=64422958&_r=0. Manafort still has an office in Kiev, where he was a principal consultant for the political party of former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. It seems that anticorruption investigators in the Ukraine found a secret ledger with Manafort’s name, indicating payments to him in the amount of $12.7 million. It is unclear whether Manafort actually received the money. Yanukovych is now a proud resident, and citizen, of Russia after his ouster in February 2014. The anticorruption investigators are uncovering details of massive corruption in the Ukraine, much of it directly related to Yanukovych.
So a solitary reporter asked Trump’s spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, which significant job in the Trump Administration Mr. Trump will appoint Manafort to. Her response was immediate: “What a stupid-ass question! Of course, on the advice of his close personal friend, Vladimir Putin, President-elect Trump will appoint Paul to the Federal Election Commission to guarantee full transparency in our elections. That’s how Mr. Trump will make America great again."
